I see clicks in Adwords but they don’t show in Analytics

If you are using Google Adwords to advertise and generate traffic to your website, then you ought to be using Google Analytics to track this traffic (and more importantly, how this traffic converts in to leads/sales so that you know how cost-effective your Adwords spend is - for example, how to track phone calls generated by Adwords)

Sometimes, you may notice that there is a difference between the number of clicks showing in your Adwords report and the number of clicks showing as arriving at your site in your Analytics console.  If you’re the paranoid type, you might think someone somewhere is ripping you off - however, the answer is likely to be a lot more straightforward than this.

A large number of web hosts will automatically redirect www.domain.com to www.domain.com/ (note the trailing slash on the second example.)

Unfortunately, when this redirect happens the autotagging (the ?gclid= that is added to the URL when someone clicks on one of your ads) is lost, which means that Analytics doesn’t pick the click up as an Adwords click.

If you are ‘losing’ clicks in this way, check the destination URLs set up in your ads - if any of them don’t end with a trailing slash, then add this in.  You should now find that 100% of your Adwords clicks are seen in Analytics. Adwo

There’s nothing worse than not being able to track your conversions properly - otherwise you might be throwing money away!
